One of hip-hop’s greatest storytellers is stepping back up to the mic.
Slick Rick — the legendary MC known for his vivid rhymes, unmistakable voice, and larger-than-life persona — is set to release a brand-new album titled Victory on April 18, 2025. It’s his first full-length project in over 25 years, and fans of golden era hip-hop have every reason to be excited.
Who is Slick Rick?
Born in London and raised in the Bronx, Slick Rick (born Richard Walters) changed the rap game the moment he grabbed a mic. He made his debut on Doug E. Fresh’s “La Di Da Di” in 1985 — a track that remains one of the most sampled songs in music history. His 1988 debut album The Great Adventures of Slick Rick is widely considered a masterpiece, featuring classics like “Children’s Story” and “Mona Lisa.”
Rick’s style was playful yet precise, flamboyant yet deeply skillful. He brought a theatricality and narrative flair that influenced everyone from Nas and The Notorious B.I.G. to Eminem and Kendrick Lamar. He made storytelling in hip-hop an art form.
Despite legal troubles and long gaps between albums, his influence never faded. Over the years, he’s been sampled by Beyoncé, Kanye West, Jay-Z, and countless others. His signature look — complete with an eyepatch and layers of gold chains — remains iconic.
Why Victory Matters
Slick Rick’s last studio album, The Art of Storytelling (1999), was packed with cameos and lyrical gems, but since then, the Ruler has remained mostly behind the scenes — until now.
Set to release under Mass Appeal’s Legend Has It… campaign (helmed by Nas), Victory is part of a powerhouse lineup that includes long-rumored albums from Raekwon, Ghostface Killah, Mobb Deep, Big L, and a Nas & DJ Premier collab. For hip-hop purists, this isn’t just nostalgia — it’s a historic rollout.
The title Victory feels more than fitting: it’s a celebration of Slick Rick’s enduring legacy and a new chapter from an artist who helped build the foundation of hip-hop as we know it.
We don’t yet know what the tracklist looks like, or who might appear on the album — but the simple fact that Slick Rick is back is a big enough statement.

Stay Tuned
More details are coming soon, and we’ll be covering it every step of the way. Until then, spin The Great Adventures and prepare yourself for one of the most anticipated returns in hip-hop history.
